LASER-ENHANCED THERMOPHORESIS IN VERTICAL TUBE FLOWS.

摘要

A numerical study of laser-enhanced thermophoretic deposition in a vertical tube has been conducted to determine the value of this configuration for the production of optical fiber preforms using the Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition process. The combined forced-free convection problem has been solved numerically using an appropriately modified version of the SIMPLER algorithm. It has been found that buoyancy has almost no effect on deposition, that the cumulative deposition efficiency increases with total laser power and there is an optimal beam width that maximizes the deposition for a given power. High laser power has the added effect of producing a more uniform deposit on the tube wall than low power.
