In this study the mixing and combustion processes of a coaxial injector which uses kerosene/non-toxic gaseous nitrous oxide as propellants were studied. Coaxial Injector is the simplest form of injector in the liquid rocket engine. We choose the fuel center kerosene/N2O injector because of its lower pressure losses and better combustion stability. Shear coaxial injector was designed and tested with both hot flow and cold flow experiments. Initially cold flow test were conducted using water and nitrogen. During the experiments the important properties of atomization like spray angle, breakup length, droplet size and flame stability were studied. Backlight method was used to analyze the breakup length. Z type shadowgraph technique and mat lab coding were used to find the spray angle. Droplet size was measured using the Malvern spraytec system. Finally hot fire experiment was conducted using kerosene and nitrous oxide to visualize the flame stability. The comparison between theoretical and experimental result indicates improved breakup length and spray angle leading to enhanced flame stability. The flame length and combustion characteristics were measured and all the data will be considered for the future design of the combustion chamber.
