Methanol partial oxidation over palladium-, platinum-, and rhodium-integrated LaMnO 3 perovskites

This study investigates methanol partial oxidation over LaMnO 3 and LaMn 0.95B 0.05O 3 (B=Pd, Pt, and Rh) perovskites. Their bulk and surface properties were characterized by appropriate physiochemical techniques including BET surface area measurement, XRD, EDS, XPS, H 2-TPR, O 2-TPD, and CH 3OH-TPD. The characterizations showed significant differences of reducibility and oxygen activity between promoted and untainted LaMnO 3. Such deviants resulted in diverse catalytic behaviors in methanol partial oxidation. Promoted perovskites showed higher reactivity than pure LaMnO 3. Moreover, the redox chemistry was proposed to enhance partial oxidation route to formaldehyde while oxygen activity, particularly surface chemisorbed oxygen, played a central role in combustion. Accordingly, plausible reaction mechanism of methanol partial oxidation over LaMnO 3 based perovskites was elucidated.
