Moving grid method for the computation of recirculating flow

The moving grid method is employed and numerical studies have been conducted on the computation of a laminar 2-D polar driven cavity flow to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method. In the computation, instead of the polar coordinate, a general body-fitted coordinate system was used to facilitate the adaptation of the grid. The numerical results are compared with available experimental and numerical data. With numerical results of 81 × 81 grid as the reference solution and based on our definition of numerical accuracy, efficiency of factor of five are obtained for the polar cavity flow with a coarse adaptive grid system.
