title = "Performance Evaluation of Unsteady Processes with Dynamic and Temporal Flexibility Indices",
abstract = "Two quantitative performance measures, i.e., the dynamic and temporal flexibility indices, have been devised in the past to quantitatively characterize the unsteady operations. However, not only their significances were not accurately interpreted and their roles not clarified, but also the theoretical foundation of their computation strategies not established rigorously. In this paper, the necessary conditions of a critical dynamic programming model are derived first and the trapezoidal integration formula is then applied to discretize the resulting constraints for computing the flexibility measures. Two case studies are reported to demonstrate the feasibility of this approach.",
