Plasma melting of incineration ashes

摘要

Ashes and sludges, discharged respectively from the incineration and wastewater treatments of laboratory wastes, were thermally stabilized at 1,773 K in a plasma-melting system using AC torches under a reductive environment. The flue gas was cleaned up with a Venturi quench and a packing tower. The volatile mercury in the flue gas was adsorbed by activated carbon and recycled by desorption. The flue gas, consisting mainly of synthesis gases, was fed into the secondary combustion chamber of the incinerator as an auxiliary fuel or burned off with a high temperature thermal oxidizer. In the try-burn tests, concentrations of toxic species in the slag and flue gas were far below the EPA limits in the plasma-melting process and also demonstrated the feasibility of the integration of incineration, plasma melting and wastewater treatment systems.
