Graves' disease is one of the important autoimmune thyroid diseases to cause hyperthyroidism. Operation is still the most effective treatment for this disorder. However, post-operative thyroid dysfunction is still what bothers thyroid surgeons most. The postoperative thyroid dysfunction of Graves' disease is due to multiple factors such as stimulating factors, destructive factors, thyroid residual volume, age, and potential proliferation of thyroid cell. Actually, up to now, no ideal method has been found to absolutely avoid post-operative dysfunction. Thus, it is still quite challenging for surgeons to determine how euthyroidism might be gained and hypothyroidism or recurrence avoided.
