Prediction of reflective cracking with stress intensity factors

摘要

Reflective cracking is a common type of distress that occurs on composite AC/PCC pavement. Fracture mechanics based analysis is not only microcosmic and accurate, but also quantifying the damage from traffic loading and temperature loading. Cracking growth speed (failure potential) is predicted by stress intensity factor and Paris' Law. Also, S-N curve was adopted to predict fatigue life of geogrid. It was found that the geogrid does not delay cracking, but it is effective on extending life of the system in the process of crack propagation because of its tensile strength. However the analysis indicated that the increase of fatigue life is not proportional to the stiffness of the geogrids. Also, the reinforcement effect provided by geogrid was more pronounced on weak subgrade foundation.
