Research of artificial heart in the National Taiwan University

摘要

This is a visiting report to the research group of artificial heart in the National Taiwan University. This group has made great achievements within last few years. Two types of artificial heart have been developed: diaphragm assist heart and centrifugal assist heart. A major effort is to improve the reliability of the pumping system while miniaturization of the whole unit is in progress. In their experiment, a cow implanted with self-developed artificial heart has been surviving for more than fifty days up to now. To temporarily but reliably replace failure hearts for patients, an ultimate goal is to develop a long-term sustained biventricular assist heart and a magnetohydrodynamic blood pump. These achievements represent the strength and potentialities of the group in the development of artificial heart in Taiwan.
