Simulated temperature increase in a head/eye model containing an intraocular Retinal prosthesis

摘要

The electromagnetic power deposition and temperature elevation in the human head/eye to an intraocular retinal prosthesis to restore vision from retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and age-related macula degeneration (AMD) was studied. The finite difference time domain (FDTD) and thermal numerical methods were used to predict temperature increase associated with the operation of an intraocular retinal prosthesis. An automatically detailed head and eye model was developed at 0.25mm resolution. It was noted that temperature increase was likely to be overestimated using 2D approach which allowed very high-resolution eye model.
