Simulation of co-gasification of sewage sludge and PKS in ASPEN PLUS: Effects of reactor temperature and steam to biomass ratio

Co-gasification technology is an effective method for sewage sludge treatment. It can reduce global warming while providing a clean energy supply. In this study, the biomass characteristics of sewage sludge, Palm kernel shells (PKS), and their blends are analyzed via co-gasification simulation in Aspen plus. The effects gasification temperature, steam to biomass ratio and blending ratios on the syngas composition, syngas heating value and cold gas efficiency of the biomass and their blends are investigated. The results show that adding PKS significantly improve the performance of sewage sludge gasification.
