Harmonic loss is a common problem in power system harmonics. However, injected harmonic currents, produced from stationary or nonstationary (constant or nonconstant amplitude) harmonic load, will increase losses on the source side. Yet no exact analytical method has ever been developed to measure and analyze the noted effect via an appropriate power definition. In this paper, a modified definition of active power delivery on the demand side is formulated, and an effective analytical method using a statistical estimation approach is proposed to solve the noted problem. Formulation and examples are presented to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed analytical method via the `student's t distribution.' By statistical estimation data, power engineers can understand harmonic power loss levels in demand-side system.
