title = "Studies on critical transition of blunt-body drag",
abstract = "In this paper, an overview was first made concerning the results obtained in the previous studies on the critical transition phenomenon of flow over a two-dimensional circular cylinder. Subsequently, updated results with regard to a two-dimensional circular cylinder and a finite circular cylinder were reported with emphasis on the non-stationary flow characteristics realized in the critical transition range. The flow characteristics were clearly illustrated by the diagrams depicting the distributions of the real-time drag and lift coefficients and the real-time pressure coefficients obtained at θ=±90°and 180°, where θ=0° denotes the angular location at the frontal stagnation point. Experiments were made in two wind tunnels. The results obtained in the two wind tunnels were complementary to each other, which helped to explain the non-stationary flow characteristics greatly.",
