In the reported experiments, surface properties of long chain N-alkyl monoaza crown ethers, i. e. , monoaza 15, 18, and 21 crowns substituted by C//8-C//1//2 alkyl groups (I) were investigated and compared with those of corresponding open chain compounds, i. e. , homogeneous polyoxyethylenated alkylamines (II). Monoaza crown ethers (I) are characteristically differentiated from the open chain alkylamines (II) in the points of smaller values of cloud point, c. m. c. , and gamma cmc, but larger values of adsorption area and free energy change of adsorption ( DELTA G). In the range of investigated alkyl chain length, the wetting and foaming properties of I are found to be better than those of II. From the views clarified above, I is characterized as a new useful surface active compound.
