N2 - High crystallinity (99%+) zeolites ZSM-5 and ZSM-48 synthesized from a reaction mixtures containing a silica source from ashes of rice husk gasification were investigated. XRD data indicates ZSM-5 and ZSM-48 with a high crystallinity can be obtained at a 48-hour crystallization time in the high pressure autoclave at 443 K. Experimentally, methanol conversion over the synthesized ZSM-5 and ZSM-48 has a high selectivity for aromatics and aliphatics, respectively. Diffuse reflectance infrared spectra reveal that benzene and pyridine molecules adsorb preferentially on the most energetic (Bronsted acid) sites first. The adsorbed benzene molecule is only slightly perturb from the D6h selection rules for the free molecule.
