The Effect of Clearance and Speed on the Relative Motions Between two Ships Advancing in Waves

摘要

In the paper, a series of analysis on the relative motions between two ships advancing in waves has been made. A three-dimensional source distribution method is applied to calculate the corresponding hydrodynamic coefficients and the hydrodynamic interactions between two ships are included. The spectral analysis technique is employed to investigate the effect of the clearance and speed on the relative motions between two ships in different sea states. Different wave headings are also considered. From the present systematic analysis, it is found that the speed and clearance between two ships indeed have some significant effect on the corresponding motions in different sea states. Therefore the present technique can be regarded as an efficient tool to offer a better choice for two ships doing underway replenishment at sea.
