Vascular grafts made of tubular braids: Effects of wrap yarn twist coefficient on mechanical properties

摘要

Vascular grafts, one common substitute for native blood vessels, are often made of woven fabrics, knits, and braids. This study aims to explore the effects of the Polyester (PET) yarn twist coefficient on the properties of tubular knits. A yarn with a twist coefficient of 1, 3, or 5 is braided with a stainless steel mandrel on a 16-spindle braid machine, forming tubular braids, which are then tested for axial and circumferential tensile strength and measured for the braid angle. The experimental results show that the twist coefficient has a significant influence on the braiding angle; also, when the twist coefficient is 5, the circumferential tensile strength decreases by 64%.
