A linear stability theory is used to analyse the vortex instability of mixed convection boundary layer flow in a saturated porous medium adjacent to an inclined surface where the wall temperature is a power function of the distance from the origin and the external flow is aiding and uniform. In the main flow analysis, both the streamwise and normal components of the buoyancy force are retained in the momentum equations. The present formulation permits the angles of inclination ranging from 0 to close to 90 degrees from the horizontal. In addition, the present study provides new vortex instability results for small angles of inclination (φ ≤ 25) and more accurate results for large angles of inclination (φ > 25°) than the previous study by Hsu and Cheng (ASME J. Heat Transfer 102, 544-549 (1980)), where the normal component of the buoyancy force in the main flow was neglected.
