Wearable transparent PVDF transducer for photoacoustic imager in body sensor network

A wearable transparent ultrasonic transducer was demonstrated with superior photoacoustic (PA) imaging performance regarding 116.8% -3dB fractional bandwidth, 4.75MHz center frequency, and 20times 20times 36text{mm}-{3} volumetric imaging field. The wearable sensor was fabricated by sputtering 150nm thick amorphous Indium tin oxide (ITO) on the both sides of a 110um commercial Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) film. A 532nm Nd:YAG laser with 5ns pulse width was used to generate co-register photoacoustic signals by delivering light into subjects through ITO and PVDF. A pencil lead with 0.3mm in diameter was used to evaluate the lateral resolution (400um). A 3D alphabet phantom made by a 3D printer were successfully imaged by self-designed PAI system. In Summary, the potential of using this acoustic sensor as a PA imager of wearable body sensor network applications was positive based on the results.
