Designing is a complex action that contains many different activities in order to solve certain problems that a designer encounters Within these activities different factors and elements interact to influence the design process Taking a descriptive model as a start this research attempts to further develop a model to be able to describe complex design activities in this case the Five-Canal Art Project to investigate how far the proposed descriptive model could make the audience learn from the described case This research attempts to add a layer onto the original coevolution model by Maher (2000) by identifying the “bridge” between the problem and the solution in the design process e g other elements or activities in the design process that guide the problems to the solutions or make the solutions refocus the requirements After the investigation and analysis with the schema of process of the design activities we can find how Kuo-Chang Liu manipulates the design activities in the community and also be surprised how so many activities in the community can be interrelated and dynamically interacting with the design process Future works could be focused on making the descriptive model more comprehensively acknowledge the elements of the design process In this case how to capture the influence of the design to its situation and designer after the design process might be an interesting point to look into as well
